The main types of modern lighting fixtures for the home
9/2022

The impression of the interior of any room largely depends on how good the lighting is in it. Beautiful furniture, stylish accessories and decorative elements are not enough. Professionally selected lighting devices will be able to emphasize all the merits of the interior design.

The critical feature of pendant lights

The main types of lighting fixtures can be divided into several large groups depending on the light source.

Light can be:

– reflected
– diffused
– directed.

At the same time, among pendant lamps, floor lamps or slots, many can be attributed to any lighting device. In addition, all lighting fixtures we can group according to the type of fixture, lamp power, type of lamps and their total number. So, let's talk more about each of the leading lighting elements in the room's interior.

If we consider pendant lights, these light sources are fixed at a certain distance from the ceiling. The most important advantage of this type of lighting is that you can change the lamp's height. This feature of the device is helpful in cases where you have a room with low ceilings or with ceilings of non-standard size.

Hanging lamps are made in various styles and from many materials (glass, wood, ceramics, plastic, crystal, etc.). They will look appropriate in bedrooms, living rooms, kitchens, children's rooms and offices. A classic example of a pendant lamp is the multi-arm chandelier.

Built-in light sources

Lamps of this type are installed in the stretch and suspended ceilings. They are point and panel. Panel fixtures usually have the shape of rectangles, which makes it easy to mount them over the entire ceiling surface. They can be both with fluorescent lamps and with LED panels.

In most cases, spot versions of lighting devices have small dimensions and can emit a directional stream of light that will illuminate only a specific part of the room. Such lighting fixtures are most relevant when installing stretch or suspended ceilings.

Light is an integral part of every person's life. People wake up with the sun and can actively move only in the presence of light; in the light, we look for the information we need, eat, work and do many other things. That is why there are many approaches to the production of devices for interior lighting.

It is worth emphasizing that the most modern and most multifunctional lamps have been created in recent years, and they have become real achievements of modernity and a step towards a new era. These devices literally "enlightened" humanity's path to growth.

Wall and table lamps

Wall samples of lamps are classified as additional sources of lighting. They can be used on any premises and must be selected in the same style as the primary light source in the room. The light source in fixtures of this type can be different light bulbs – from LED to halogen. Just like other types of lighting devices, wall lamps are made using the following materials:

• frosted and transparent glass,
• plastic,
• wood,
• textiles,
• crystal,
• metal.

Widely known and widely used table lamps are one of the most functional lighting devices. They can also become a very successful and exciting accent in your interior design. Table lamps can be used in the house not only on the desk but also in the bedroom on bedside tables next to the bed.

Currently, such lamps are developed to be as convenient as possible. They have a flexible base that allows you to adjust the lighting device's height and angle of inclination. There are also options with additional fastening to the tabletop. They can be equipped with different light sources, but it is best to use those light bulbs that provide the most comfortable light for work.

LED luminaires for indoor and outdoor lighting

The field of their application is very multifaceted: industrial and production premises, residential apartments, private houses, and administrative or economic institutions. Although just a few decades ago, the LED was an ordinary indicator light bulb that was not in such wide demand and was used exclusively in certain areas.

It should be noted that fixtures of this type reduce the strain on the eyes of workers in offices. The colour of the light they emit is close to natural daylight, so it does not force a person's eyes to readjust every time they look through the window or at the lighting devices.

LED luminaires are also relevant in open areas where night lighting is needed: basements, stairwells, parking lots and playgrounds.

Street lighting is one of those areas where LED lighting products are widely used. After all, in the open air, lamps must have high resistance to sudden temperature changes and high humidity, as well as to overheating in the sun. Standard LED luminaires to have all these characteristics and can work smoothly and efficiently even in severe winter frosts. In addition, LED fixtures are equipped with protection against voltage drops.

Light fixtures for residential premises

For living spaces, lighting designers often recommend ceiling lamps with diffused light. This option is best suited for those rooms where the most uniform lighting is required. In particular, specialists choose lamps with a soothing soft white tone for bedrooms. Also, diffused light will be appropriate in spacious living rooms with high ceilings, kitchens, and behind bar counters.

Spotlights have also gained no less popularity. Thanks to them, lighting designers visually divide the room into functional zones. The combination of this luminaire with other lighting devices allows you to evenly illuminate the room and make the necessary accents that the client insists on.

In addition, in the arsenal of designers, there are techniques by which specialists can visually change the volume of the premises. For example, if the room's walls and ceiling are finished with reflective materials when using bright lighting can visually expand the space very effectively. And when using lighting fixtures with reflectors pointing upwards, you can visually raise the low ceiling. If the top is too low, experts tend to darken it by installing lampshades with light bulbs pointing down.
